History

The vision of EarthShare Gardens began with a meeting of community members and University of Louisiana at Lafayette students in January 2002.  The organic garden which is located in a north Lafayette, LA neighborhood started on 1 acre of land and is now located on a 4 acre track of land which is owned by the Catholic Diocese of Lafayette, LA.

A donation garden began in 2006 when the Jr. Class of a local school worked in a section of the garden that was set aside as a donation plot as a way of providing fresh local vegetables to a local soup kitchen.

In the past, EarthShare Gardens’ volunteers have worked with clients at the Acadiana Outreach Center’s New Leaf Garden and have also assisted the students at the Volunteer of America Alternative School with a gardening project.
